About Cabarete
Cabarete sits on the Dominican Republic's north coast and is one of the Caribbean's most reliable thermal-wind spots. Side-shore trades build through the afternoon almost daily in season, giving Cabarete Bay its signature pattern of calm mornings for lessons and powered-up afternoons for freeride and waves. The water is a mix of flat-to-choppy inside the reef and rolling waves on the outside, so it suits everyone from first-timers to advanced riders working on strapless and wave riding.
Wind is most consistent from February through August, peaking in July at close to ten kiteable hours a day; the shoulder months of March, June and August are nearly as good. Winters run lighter and gustier. The nearest airport is Puerto Plata (POP), about 20 minutes away with direct links from North America and Europe, and the town itself is walkable with schools, rentals and board storage right on the beach.
